Good Friday
Fr Richard's suggestions for prayer today:
- While out walking, recall or picture the way of the cross - perhaps using the scenes of the 5 Sorrowful Mysteries of the Rosary: The Agony in the Garden; the Scourging at the Pillar; the Crowning with Thorns; the Way to Calvary; the Crucifixion.
- Read SLOWLY - out loud - one of the Passion accounts in the Gospels.
- If you enjoy listening to music, sit with Bach's 'St Matthew's Passion', or a modern musical like 'Godspell' or 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.
- The Imaginative Prayer Exercise 'Accompanying Mary as she visits Jesus in the cells'.
The prayer Fr Richard reads:
Jesus, may all that is in you flow into me. May your body and blood be my food and drink. May your passion and death be my strength and life. Jesus, with you by my side enough has been given. May the shelter I seek be the shadow of your cross. Let me not run from the love which you offer, But hold me safe from the forces of evil. On each of my dyings shed your light and your love. Keep calling to me until that day comes, When, with your saints, I may praise you forever. Amen
Review of Prayer
- Was I fully involved, or more like a spectator, bored or engaged?
- What did I feel in my heart as I gazed at the Good Friday Jesus?
